Stakeholder Requirements
ISLANDS OF DATA
Most organizations have staff accumulating information in spreadsheets because data relevant to their specific job is not available from corporate databases. Issues associated with staff managing data in spreadsheets are obvious and do not require elaboration, but associated costs are substantial. Many staff are managing their own version of the same data which leads to excessive duplication of effort and confusion when the islands of data do not agree.
DATA CLASSIFICATION
All organizations need detailed tactical data for day to day decisions; however data is normally accumulated in accounting systems which categorize information in a manner that compromises the value of tactical data, and to some extent, strategic data as well.
CHANGE
Personnel are frustrated with constantly learning new systems that put more demands on their time without providing them with additional value in the performance of their duties. The IT application software industry has spent many years driving towards centralized integrated systems. The results have been mixed because:
- Integration is extremely complex and typically unable to keep up with changing business environments that continue to change at an accelerated rate.
- Systems are typically focused on providing information to management without recognizing the need to support the operational people who are making day-to-day front line decisions.
COSTS AND REVENUES
Costs need to be assigned and tracked against purchase orders, work orders, and projects. These transactions can be complex and error prone with hundreds of workers, job orders, transactions, and pay rates. The same information is often required by multiple systems and, unfortunately, is typically entered multiple times.
TEAMWORK
Most of the global business community execute initiatives by organizing human resources into teams. The business pain associated with team work is ongoing and any tool that can help to foster a team environment by maximizing communications and minimizing politics brings value to team results.
COST ALLOCATIONS
Every business should be concerned about the allocation of costs. Cost allocation of overhead and indirect costs among corporate assets is, and always will be, the burden of accountants who need to fairly measure and report profitability, as well as to ensure that reporting is in accordance with prevailing regulatory bodies. SCR enhances the ability to logically and consistently deal with cost allocations.
